Manukau Harbour, 2/3 Day Waimanu Trip

The Waimanu Kayak Trail follows the southwest beaches of the inner Manukau Harbour from the historic town of Waiuku. Waiuku was the northern end of the portage of the early food canoes from the Waikato River and New Zealands inland foodbowl, the central Waikato (See our Waikato River "Dam to the Sea" trip). There are many safe rest stops (with toilets) on this scenic two/three day trip to near the entrance of the harbour. 4 metre tide variations limit paddling to about 4 hours per day. Accommodation from tent sites to cabins are spaced at intervals along the trail. See www.kayaktrails.co.nz

Duration	2/3 days, 43 kilometres, overnight in tents or cabins
Paddling	Approx 4 hrs including breaks per day (tidal).
Kayaking area	Manukau Harbour beaches on the Awhitu Peninsula, from Waiuku to Orua Bay. The trip can be paddled in the reverse direction from Orua Bay to Waiuku as the Manuwai Trail.
Check in	Waiuku at Kentish Hotel carpark, 3hours before Onehunga High Tide.
Minimum Age	16yrs to have single kayak Family groups can be accommodated in double seakayaks - one adult per child.
Prior Experience	Not necessary (kayaking instruction and safety briefing is given before trip commences).
Food	Cooking equipment supplied on Freedom Trips, bring your own food.

Those of you that are continuing on will be transported to SH1 at Bombay to catch your transport to Auckland, Hamilton or Rotorua

The Kentish was opened in 1853 by Edward Constable and holds the oldest continuous “Publicans Special Licence (No 47) for the sale of spirituous liquors” in New Zealand.
Dinner and breakfast are available in house or at a number of nearby restaurants and cafes.

StressFree Adventures shuttle to SH1 at Bombay the next morning to meet buses going North, South or to Coromandel leaves at about 8.30am, or by arrangement.
